A few months has passed since the official announcement that James Gunn and Peter Safran had been named the co-CEOs of DC Studios. Strangely, he been working with their biggest competitor, Marvel Studios on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 at the same time as directing The Suicide Squad and writing the upcoming Superman movie, Superman: Legacy.
Of course, now he’s the CEO he’s severed ties with Marvel as continuing this relationship would obviously be a conflict of interest. Now dedicated to the DC Comics Universe (DCU), it was suspected that he would be taking on a role identical to that of Kevin Feige’s role at Marvel Studios. However, this is apparently not the case.
Whilst on the pressrun for the third and final instalment of Guardians of the Galaxy franchise Gunn shed some light on the difference between his Feige’s roles stating:
“It’s actually a little different. I mean, number one, DC Studios is a studio, so it’s a little bit different. Peter Safran [co-CEO of DC Studios] does a lot of what Kevin Feige does. A lot of what I do is I just work on the creative side of things. So mapping out the stories and the creative side of the universe is my job much more so than some of the more administrative, executive-type stuff. And Kevin has to do both.”
So from what Gunn says it sounds like the role that Kevin Feige has at Marvel Studios has been split in two between the co-CEOs. With Gunn taking on the creative side of things and Safran handling the business end of productions.
The Future of the DC Universe

The upcoming slate of movies compromising the first phase of the new DCU has been entitled Gods & Monsters. We don’t know everything yet but we’ve at least been given some things to look forwards to.
One of these projects is an animated adaptation of the military superhuman team, Creature Commandos. The cast has already been announced and we’ve already received confirmation that the same cast will be playing the characters should they appear in any live-action projects.
Within this cast we have Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, David Harbor as Eric Frankenstein, Sean Gunn as G.I. Robot, Indira Varma as The Bride, Maria Bakalova as Ilana Rostovic and Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky.
Alongside this exciting announcement we’ve also been told that Gunn has finished the first draft of Superman: Legacy has been finished. A movie that he’s also set to direct with a new actor being cast in the lead role replacing Henry Caville. Who this will be still remains unknown as we’ve yet to even hear of a release date.
Until then, we have the next DC Studios movie, The Flash to look forwards to which is set to premier this August.
