The actor set to play Darkseid in Justice League has officially confirmed his appearance.
Actor Ray Porter has taken to twitter to confirm his appearance as Darkseid, the evil ruler of Apokolips, in Zack Snyder’s Justice League movie. The behind the scenes story of the legendary Snyder Cut has been somewhat of a roller coaster ride for fans.
It all started when Zack Snyder left the project due to a family tragedy, then all hell broke loose when The Avengers director, Joss Whedon was brought in to take over. His artistic vision and overall style as a director is a vast contrast to that of Snyder’s.
It was made abundantly clear in the final cut of the movie that there’s another movie hiding in there somewhere. The movie was cut down from three hours to two and many storylines were removed, changed heavily or never shot.
Fans were outraged of what the once-promising, first silver screen outing of the Justice League had become, and this gave rise to the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut hashtag movement.
The movement has campaigned for years to get Zack Snyder’s version of the movie released. We’ve been teased, led on and told by those who worked on it that the original Snyder Cut of the movie was ‘amazing’.
It was borderline torture! And despite all the teasing, for some time it seemed like we were never going to see the Snyder Cut. That is until earlier this week when the announcement came out of nowhere that we will finally be getting a finished Snyder Cut.
One of the most highly anticipated elements of the Snyder Cut is the possibility of a Darkseid appearance. In the theatrical cut of Justice League, he’s merely referenced in passing fancy by the main antagonist, Steppenwolf, but originally the character was meant to make several appearances including the flashback to the battle for the Mother Boxes.
Of course, all of these appearances were removed in the final cut. Now, after the revelation of the Snyder Cut’s release its also been revealed that Darkseid will be making an appearance and actor Ray Porter, who was long rumoured to be portraying the character, has taken to twitter to confirm this to be the truth.
Predictions and Rumours
There is a rumour that Snyder’s original cut of the Justice League ends with Steppenwolf being killed by Wonder Woman before Darkseid appears via a Boom Tube declaring war on the heroes, setting the stage for Justice League 2.
A lot has changed since then so it’s extremely unlikely we will ever see this happen. Despite this being the case, the fact that we are finally seeing the release of this cut is definitely a victory for us fans. We won’t have to wonder what could have been any longer.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League is set to release on the HBO Max streaming service in 2021. Warner Bros. are projecting costs of roughly $20-30 million to complete the post-production stage of filming.
